Some major issues with PC’s can be avoided by doing some simple maintenance. If you ever notice that your PC is slowing down then it is a prime candidate for a “tune up”.
Install an anti-virus program. You never know where you can get a virus, malware, or spyware so it is best to protect your PC from it at all times. There are great FREE programs like Avast and AVG.
Install pop up blocking software. This will prevent those unwanted messages from popping up which may lead to malware and spyware being inadvertently installed. If you use Google for searches I would suggest using Google pop up blocker software which is included in their internet browser toolbar.
Use automatic updates to get all security fixes. Unfortunately Windows has some holes in it. Luckily they identify them quickly and they can be fixed by downloading their updates.
Cleanup up unnecessary files. When you jump from page to page on the internet your browser stores information and pictures from those pages so that if you go back it will load quicker. Unfortunately this also slows your PC down. Every week or month run the Windows Disk Cleanup (Start/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup) to get rid of the junk!
Run disk defragmenter (Start/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter). This will clean up your hard drives and improve the hard drive speed. It will also optimize the files on the drive which will decrease the chance of a file freezing/locking your system.
